Superior Beverage Group is a privately held business with roots dating back to 1922 when Marion N. Antonucci formed the Superior Wholesale Grocery Company in Youngstown, Ohio. Shortly following the Great Depression, Marion ventured into the wholesale beer and wine industry and established the Superior Beverage Company. From the late 1940s until 1984, the company prospered under the leadership of Marion’s son, John (Jack) R. Antonucci.
Under Jack’s leadership, the company continued successfully in Youngstown. In recognition of the company’s performance under his direction, Jack was recognized in 1984 by Time Magazine with the “Distinguished Beverage Wholesaler Award”.
Since 1984, when the company became Superior Beverage Group, it has been guided through an aggressive period of growth and consolidation by current Chairman, John M. Antonucci, who represents the third generation of leadership. During the last 30 years, the company expanded from its Youngstown origin into several new markets including: Akron, Steubenville, Canton, Lorain, Columbus, Cleveland, Texas and Colorado. Each subsequent venture has provided comprehensive market insight and product knowledge, as well as, valuable transition experience, contributing to a more capable organization.
