Our History
Superior Beverage Group, Ltd. is a family owned business with roots dating back to 1922 when Marion N. Antonucci formed the Superior Wholesale Grocery Company in Youngstown, Ohio. Shortly after the depression, Marion decided to go into the wholesale wine and beer business establishing the Superior Beverage Company. From the late 1940s until 1984, the company prospered under the leadership of Marion's son, John (Jack) R. Antonucci.
In 1984 Jack was recognized by Time Magazine with their "Distinguished Beverage Wholesaler Award". Jack presently serves as Chairman Emeritus and is retired, living in Florida.
Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, the company has been guided through an aggressive period of consolidation by the current Chairman, John M. Antonucci, representing the third generation of leadership. The company expanded from its Youngstown roots into the Akron, Steubenville and Canton markets.
In 1998 John M. Antonucci and John T. Fleming formed Superior Beverage Group of Central Ohio. The company is headquartered in Columbus, Ohio and distributes alcoholic beverages in the Columbus and Mansfield markets.
In 2006 Superior Beverage Group entered the greater Cleveland marketplace. The company expanded its sales and delivery capabilities to service an additional four county area.
Superior Beverage Group is an organization that services approximately 10,800 retailers in 33 Ohio counties.
